We have wonderful news from our hard-working Friends, the Public Health Nurses, on Pine Ridge Reservation.  Mary Mouseau writes:  Dear Frank and Juliana; thank you for everything!  We had a “Calico Pow-wow and Co-ed Softball Tournament and a Walk and Run” last weekend; we had about 50 participants in the walk and run.  There were quite a few dancers at the pow-wow.  We had 8 teams for the co-ed tourney and 4 women teams.  It was great.  The weather was really nice, too.  Mary Tobacco had about 350 backpacks w/school supplies so all the youth rec’d a bag.  It was great.  We also had a small parade; mostly the youth were in the parade (4) floats.  We gave out water and Gatorade to all the walkers and runners.  I had some t-shirts so we gave those out, too.  We fed all the people Saturday and Sunday evening (about 150 people.)  We served veg. soup, fry bread, lemonade, tea, coffee, and wojapi.  The veggies were donated from my garden; the meat was donated from the Parks and Recreation.  We all donated lemonade, tea, coffee, and all the condiments.  We donated the paperware, too.  It was very hard coordinating everything; but it all worked out.  I was really tired Sunday night.  Everybody said they had a good time and are looking forward to next year’s activities already.  Thanks to you and Frank, everything worked out and your assistance took a lot of pressure off for us.  Once again, thank you so much.  Your friend on the rez, Mary.

Karen Red Star had the first of her six-month Walking Program registration on August 19!!!! We are sooooo excited about the health and physical activity choices that the Public Health Nurses are putting into action and are very happy to be able to provide support in this area.  Thank You all for Your assistance !!!!!!!
